La Terrasse O2

WHAT?

The countdown has begun! On the 19th of May, La Terrasse O2 will launch and it officially indicates summer.

This year La Terrasse de l’Hippodrome has changed its name to La Terrasse O2. This symbol for oxygen points out to the engagement of the initiators to reduce the ecological footprint. In doing so, they join the eco-responsibility movement in particular through a co-operation with the Reforest Action project, among others. The new “green bar” is the place where to have a drink, dance and brunch this summer.

Terrasse O2

Come along and share fabulous moments from midday to midnight in the middle of tropical plants.

No need to travel abroad to be able to enjoy a pleasant moment in a summer atmosphere.

Savour a cocktail while having your feet in the water (yes, they have a pool!) after a long working day and let your taste buds be delighted by a brunch or dinner at the cosy restaurant of La Terrasse O2.

You know when you arrive but you don’t know when you will leave. Let yourself be carried away by the early summer feelings, the freshness of a cocktail and the festive ambiance! Trust us, you don’t want to miss this rendez-vous.

The Hotel & The Restaurant partner up with B.E.L., a proof of quality

The Hotel and The Restaurant by Pierre Balthazar are utterly proud to announce their partnership with the Brussels Exclusive Labels (B.E.L.) along prestigious members such as Delvaux, Baobab, Obumex, Dandoy, Leysen, Diane Von Furstenberg, Maison Verloet, Le Chalet de la Fôret, Maison Roger, and many others.
B.E.L. is an equivalent for quality, luxury and creativity so with all these values that we hold dear, it is no surprise we teamed up for a partnership.

BEL quality
ABOUT
B.E.L., three initials that have been well established in the Capital in the meantime, is a non-profit organization founded in 1937 with the aim to promote excellence. To date it brings together over 80 of the most prestigious brands of the Brussels Capital Region from fine cuisine and jewellery to hotels and cars, the BEL has become a synonym for excellence.

Why B.E.L.? Brussels, because our capital has become a “brand”, a label, at the heart of Europe. Exclusive, because being exceptional is what its members do every day, while looking to the future. In fact, exclusivity is their special hallmark. Labels, lastly, because the desire to be held up as an example characterises each one of their initiatives and because we all, whether craftspeople, designers or large international luxury brands, set themselves apart by constantly striving for excellence.

HISTORY
In 1937 the Chambre du Haut Commerce d’Art et de Luxe was founded in order to bring together and promote companies which advocated a certain idea of luxury, craftsmanship and quality. B.E.L., its new name with an international outlook, has taken up the torch.

The areas of activity covered are varied: art, gastronomy, leather goods, jewellery, couture, hotels, etc. Its top Belgian craftspeople, its best names in the Brussels retail scene and its large international companies are all established in Brussels. They are valued for their exclusivity, the perfection of their products and the emotions that they arouse. They offer the very best and treat every customer as a special individual. All these companies are chosen by Brussels Exclusive Labels because luxury is essentially a question of benchmarks, dynamism and authenticity.

OUR BUSINESS
In view of the selective cherry-picking demonstrated by B.E.L., this partnership speaks for the high quality at The Hotel and The Restaurant by Pierre Balthazar and its steady efforts to maintain the level of its services. Joining B.E.L. is a further token of our desire to always respond as best as possible to our guests’ expectations.

Every client deserves ‘a made to measure’ experience. At The Hotel and The Restaurant we want our clients to have the opportunity to experience this unique feeling of escaping the busy city life and entering a haven of comfort, luxury and gastronomy. We care about our clients’ needs and we do our best to make it an unforgettable moment. Our daily mission is to provide a enticing visit for our guests and to make them go home filled with memories. This fully coincides with what B.E.L. stands for and we couldn’t be more proud to partner up with this organisation and see what the future holds.

Art in Brussels with Eurantica

For centuries, art has been the expression of human creativity and imagination. Painting, sculpture, literature and even fashion. It’s a concept that keeps evolving over time.

Everyone has their own definition of art and it can be perceived and interpreted in many different ways. Every person has their own feelings and hence has a different appreciation of any particular piece of art. The magic of art consists of letting our imagination speak and expressing our feelings, that’s the real essence.

Brussels inhabitants are blessed with a city that offers an array of beautiful architectural works, going from the City-Hall of Brussels to the Horta museum and many other monumental buildings. It is therefore no wonder that multiple exhibitions take place in Brussels on a yearly basis as the city is considered as one of the best-kept places of art nouveau and contemporary art. offering a pleasant moment to the art enthusiasts, and the opportunity to share their passion amongst them.

At The Hotel we want our clients to have the opportunity to experiment this unique feeling of being captured by a piece of art. Therefore art is omnipresent in The Hotel and we recommend to our guests to take the time to explore the ‘universe of art’ through the exhibitions in Brussels.

This month The Hotel recommends the “Fine Art Fair Eurantica” in Mechelen. This fair is heaven for art lovers, vintage design enthusiasts and guests of The Hotel with a passion for all things pretty.

Flower Carpet in Brussels’ city center

WHAT?
Every two years, the Brussels Grand Place is adorned with its most magnificent attire and becomes a gigantic flower oasis. Being a UNESCO heritage, the Grand Place is the perfect location right in the city center to display this marvelous scene that takes place from the 12th up until the 15th of August 2016.

This year will be even more special, as the famous carpet of flowers will be celebrating its 20th anniversary! With its Japanese theme, celebrating 150 years of friendship between Japan and Belgium, it is bound to be a blooming surprise.

Flower Carpet night

BEGONIAS?
The city’s flower carpet will consist of over 600.000 bright begonias, a typical Belgian flower fostered with great care in the beautiful city of Ghent. The robust tuberous begonia lends beauty and freshness to the flower carpet. A native of the West Indies, the hearty begonia is resistant to all weather conditions: intense sunshine, violent winds, rain, cold… Begonias come in a rich palette ranging from the most vivid colours to delicate pastel shades, with in between the many-coloured and white flowers that reflect sunlight so well. Belgium is the world’s largest producer of begonias: 60 million bulbs each year! 80% of the total production, cultivated almost exclusively in the area of Ghent since 1860, is exported, primarily to the Netherlands, France and the United States.

Flower Carpet

WHO?
More than 100 volunteer gardeners put together this giant floral puzzle in less than four hours. The day before the opening, the spaces between the floral motifs are filled in using rolls of sod. The flowers are so closely-packed (300 per square meter, i.e. around 600,000 flowers in all!) that they can´t be blown away, and indeed they create their own micro-climate! If there´s a heat wave, the sod is watered to prevent it from wilting. If the weather is too wet, the grass can grow by 4 to 5 centimeters in 3 days. The flowers remain fresh and preserve their splendour during the four days.

IS THAT IT?
No, there’s more… Not only delighting the eyes and the ears (the flowers have a wonderful scent), there will also be a concert to kick off the this event with music that perfectly suits this exciting floral event in the capital.

To make the perfect picture, you can enter the city hall and go right to top for the perfect picture!

WHEN?
The Flower Carpet is open for the public from Friday 12th of August up until Monday 15th of August included. Access to the balcony:

August 12th: from 1 pm to 6 pm
August 13th to 15th: from 10 am to 10 pm

Let’s raise knife and fork, support restaurants in Brussels.

After the attacks on the 22nd March, restaurants in Brussels are suffering. The restaurants and bars that make this city proud stay empty. We can’t let fear take over. That is why De Tijd and L’Echo, two Belgian newspapers launched #DiningForBrussels
